sometimes a little medical information may be useful: Q-fever
RKI, Q-Fieber
Q -fever, CDC
Q-fever, wiki
In 2014 there were 189 people infected in one go not really far from my home,
a sheep market near Heidenheim, in Steinheim,"Mondscheinmarkt".
As i recently mentioned a dramatic increase of Hanta virus infections in my area this year,
myself getting infected, i post another regional medical special problem.
In my practice it has been rare over the last 25 years , 2-3 cases, although we have many sheep
here, a lot really.
It can present with an atypical pneumonia and can be well treated with specific antibiotics as it is
a bacterial infection (Coxiella burnetii). The bacterium had been discovered about 80 years ago in Australia.
It is not endemic in New Zealand!
This year so far less than 30 in all of Baden-Wuerttemberg.
The way of infection is mostly the same as with Hanta (Hanta: from mice): inhalation of dust containing dried urine, droppings, placenta, here generally from sheep.
So, don't inhale-live exhaling if you dare.
but no, it is really rare...
....and there are some even rarer infectious diseases occurring here and elsewhere.
Psittacosis, neighbours had caged birds, a new budgie died, had started to ask on them,
took me a while to find out why the lady coughed and a child playing there often, both atypical pneumonia, also easily treated. This year 2 in Baden-Wuerttemberg.
....and i observed one case of Leptospirosis which is not nice at all, but years ago.
This year 7 in Baden Wuerttemberg.
so, this was my observation day. i shared...
