the herring and the bottle

a message in a bottle
is difficult to reach,
first you open the bottle,
if you can't you break it

sure now you read
but it may not be for you
and the sender may be
unknown, gone, deceased

and after all this
trouble to open,
to read, why not
leave the bottle be

and see it as surprise
glimmering on the
beach next time
and smile

you will not win
the lottery and all
thought is like
a herring in the sea

floating in its swarm
and still all alone-
stop to break bottles
and leave them be

or write a letter
and send it
in a bottle to
swim to eternity

ps:
tried an interpretation after..
poem on the absurdity of thought
looking for purpose

just..can do good to watch a world out and away....

William S. Burroughs, A Man Within

i am still watching this film, quite interesting, triggering off the mind
to explore..a bit ...long...
you know, it just came to my mind that i am mad enough as i am,

and that mental disorder (i refuse to call this illness), to be gay, lesbian,
upper class, black, a politician or a journalist, to be suicidal, deaf or blind
an atheist or a religious teacher, a junkie or a pharmacist- that all do not appear
to be basic pre-conditions for an  authentic mind, for asking questions or for
writing poems, composing music, painting or anything else at all.
sometimes one could be tempted to think so:
i cannot come to this conclusion.
creative work just must be true and come from a place inside
where suffering and joy can be transformed into a way of
reaching self and possibly others.
maybe, maybe a bit like this. hard to find the right words.

Leonard Cohen , The Butcher
